I thought I’d do something different and participate in the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. The theme for this weeks challenge is Rise/Set an exploration of our favorite sunrises and/or sunsets.
Sunrise is my favorite time of day. I don’t know if the picture of the Nebraska skyline below, painted by my Great Uncle Art, is the reason I love sunrise, but I have always loved this painting.

I love that painting! Was your great uncle a professional artist?

Hi Janis
I’m so glad you love the painting too. My grandfather and my Great Uncle Art worked together. Grandfather was a photographer and Uncle Art touched up the photos. I don’t know for sure, but I believe this would have been in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. I never met my grandfather, but Uncle Art played a major roll in my life. I have many fond memories of him
Thanks

Oh, I wondered if that was an actual photo at the bottom of the image. So beautiful!

The top picture is the painting by Uncle Art. The bottom picture is a photo i took, in my back yard, at sunrise, a couple of years ago

That’s a lovely painting and photo, Laura. Sunrise is also my favourite part of the day. I’ve always been a morning person. It’s the best part of the day for me.

Hello Hugh
I’m glad you like Uncle’s painting. Even in retirement, I get up by 6:30 so I can enjoy the peace of the morning.
Thanks

She does look familiar, doesn’t she. I love this photo. If you see her, tell her hello.
See you all in a week or so

Thank you. I’m glad you liked the haiku. I thought since I was changing it up with the photo challenge I pop in the haiku. I don’t normally write poetry.
Also thanks for following me. Your support is very much appreciated

That’s an incredible painting. I could see why it left a mark. I prefer sunsets to sunrises, but have seen plenty of both in my life, especially when we lived on our sailboat for eight years. My husband is the kind who says “How many more photos do you want of a sunset?” while I still enjoy each and every one I manage to spot (and photograph). The colors of these natural occurrences can be mind-blowing and oh-so-inspiring!

HI Liesbet
Funny, my husband says the same thing. I have several sunrise/sunset/rainbow photos. Each is different because it’s a totally different day with different feelings to go along with it. I enjoy going back and looking at them. My brother lives in San Diego area and texts pictures of the sunset regularly.
Thanks
